Edom, Texas is just a short drive north of Brownsboro at the intersection of FM 279 and FM 314.
It is the third oldest town in Van Zandt County, was first established several miles from its present site in 1849.
Sometime later the town was moved to its present location. For more information about the history of Edom, we recommend a visit to the Edom Historical Society Museum in walking distance from other popular attractions in Edom.
Today, Edom is a lovely small community of restaurants, art galleries, shops, farms, retreats, B&Bs and more. Edom is also the home to spring and fall art shows well known in all of Texas.
Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center
Close to Athens and Brownsboro is the widely known and visited Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC). The facility combines outdoor education with a production fish hatchery. This $18 million facility was built without the use of state funds even though it belongs to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. TFFC houses a hatchery, laboratory, aquarium, and education center focusing on underwater wildlife in the state’s freshwater streams, ponds and lakes. Chandler is located just east of Brownsboro on Highway 31. Winchester Park is located on the southern end of Chandler. Facilities include three baseball fields, a playground, two pavilions, two concession areas, a lake and a walking trail.

Nearby is Lake Palestine, a 25,000 acre reservoir providing boating, fishing, camping and other outdoor recreational activities.
